Gwangju, SOUTH KOREA – North Texas junior swimmer Robyn Lee represented Zimbabwe at the 2019 FINA World Aquatic Championships in Gwangju, South Korea, this week.
Lee competed in the 100-meter backstroke and 100-meter butterfly.
In the backstroke, Lee won her heat with a time of 1:06.96 on Monday. In the 100m butterfly, Lee swam in heat one with a time of 1:07.63. She earned Zimbabwe points with both of her swims.
"I'm thrilled that Zimbabwe chose Robyn as part of their national team to compete in Gwangju," North Texas head coach Brittany Roth said. "She works extremely hard and always has her sights set on big goals. It's always a great experience to compete on the world stage, and to be exposes to such a prestigious level of competition. I can't wait for Robyn to get back to campus as she sets her sights on 2020."
Lee spent most of 2018 and early 2019 out of the pool with a broken arm. She returned late in the season and qualified for CSCAA Nationals in the 100 yard butterfly, 100 yard backstroke and 200 yard backstroke.
"Many athletes would have conceded their dreams," Roth said. "But Robyn stayed positive and proactive. I am so proud of all she has done thus far to get back."
