
James Named To Hermann Trophy Watch List

DENTON – North Texas soccer 2018 all-American Dominique James has been named to the 2019 Women's MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List.
James is the first player in program history to be named to the honor that every year since 1988 has been awarded to the nation's top college soccer player. Of the 58 women named to the watch list, James is just one of 13 defenders.
The rising senior became the program's first all-American last season after leading the Mean Green to a Conference USA regular season and tournament championship. The two-time defending Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year was also named the league's inaugural Player of the Year after last season.
The defensive center back led UNT to a top-five goals-against average in the nation last season and the program's second straight and sixth overall trip to the NCAA Tournament.The Mean Green earned their first ever top 25 national ranking during the 2018 season and had eight women named to all-conference honors, the most in the league.
In addition to her athletic success, James is a two-time C-USA All-Academic honoree, a C-USA Commissioner Academic Medal recipient and was awarded the 2018 C-USA Spirit and Service Award.

Twenty-two former winners have gone on to play for the United States National Soccer Team including two-time World Cup champion Mia Hamm who won the award at North Carolina in 1993 and 1994. Five former Hermann Trophy winners played for the champion U.S. team in the 2019 FIFA World Cup this summer. In total, nine past winners played in the 2019 World Cup.
North Texas begins its 2019 campaign on Aug. 22 at its new complex the North Texas Soccer/Track and Field. The Mean Green are entering their 25th season and have never had a losing season.
