William H. Tucker Invitational
UNM Championship Golf Course | Albuquerque, N.M.
The North Texas men's golf team returns to action just three days after opening their season at the Trinity Forest Invitational and head to the Land of Enchantment to compete in a 15-team field.
THE EVENT: The UNM Championship Golf Course will play at 7,555 yards, and will be a par-72 course for the tournament. The two-day event begins Friday with 36 holes and ends Saturday with the final 18 holes. Play will get underway each day at 8:45 a.m., with a shotgun start.
THE FIELD: There are 15 teams participating in the tournament: Arizona, BYU, Coastal Carolina, Colorado, Florida Atlantic, Kansas, Loyola Marymount, New Mexico, New Mexico State, North Texas, San Diego State, UNLV, Utah, UTEP and Wyoming.
REPRESENTING UNT: Competing for the Mean Green will be Zak Karkaletsos, Viktor Forslund, Alejandro Madariaga, Kristof Ulenaers, Hiroki Miya and Robert Garcia. One of the six will compete as an individual.
RESULTS: Live results will be posted on GolfStat.com. Full recaps from each day of competition will be posted on MeanGreenSports.com at the end of each round.
LAST TIME OUT: North Texas finished 17th at the season-opening Trinity Forest Invitational in Dallas and was led by Viktor Forslund, who tied for 46th.
INTERNATIONAL FLAVOR: The Mean Green feature seven international players this year, including some key freshmen who are expected to contribute immediately. Lenny Bergsson (Iceland), Viktor Forslund (Sweden), Cameron Harlock (New Zealand), Zak Karkaletsos (Spain), Alejandro Madariaga (Mexico), Hiroki Miya (New Zealand) and Kristof Ulenaers (Belgium) round out the international players.
STRACKE SAYS: "We will be changing up the lineup for The Tucker. We have three guys playing their first college tournament this week in New Mexico. At SMU, we had two guys play for the first time. The team will gain some valuable experience this fall and improve immensely over the course of the year."
UP NEXT: North Texas will host the second annual Maridoe Intercollegiate from Oct. 6-8 at the Maridoe Golf Club in Carrollton, Texas.
HOME SWEET MARIDOE: North Texas enjoys its home course -- the Maridoe Golf Club in Carrollton. The course opened to members in July 2017 and gives the Mean Green a state-of-the-art home course with world-class facilities, including a fully-dedicated practice facility, complete with a two-ended driving range to account for many varying wind conditions, a sprawling three-acre short game retreat and indoor facilities with state-of-the-art hitting bays that provide tools the program has not yet had at its disposal.
