Top Teams In C-USA Clash On Saturday

RUSTON, Louisiana — The North Texas men's basketball is taking its four-game winning streak to Louisiana Tech on Saturday for a 4 p.m. scheduled tip-off.
The Mean Green (10-8, 4-1 C-USA) and Bulldogs (13-4, 4-1 C-USA) are tied for second-place in the league standings and are the only Conference USA teams with an NCAA Net ranking in the top 100. Along with C-USA standing implications, UNT is looking to end one of its longest active droughts.
North Texas last beat LA Tech in Ruston on Dec. 18, 1952, which was the first time the two schools met. The Mean Green, though, on Thursday ended a similar drought when they beat Southern Miss, 72-52, for their first victory in Hattiesburg since 1971.
Saturday's game will be broadcasted on ESPN+ and on the Mean Green Sports Network (95.3 FM) on on the tuneIN app.
10 ASSISTS AND NO TURNOVERS
Hamlet had 13 points, 10 assists and 0 turnovers on Thursday at USM. He's just the 13th player this season to have a double-double with 10+ assists and no turnovers. He's the first UNT player in over 10 years to accomplish that.
ONE OF THE BEST IN THE NATION
North Texas' DJ Draper's career 3-point field goal percentage of 44.6 ranks third in the nation for active players who have made at least 80 career 3-pointers. Roosevelt Smart's 194 career 3-pointers are tied for 18th most for active players.
LOW TURNOVERS
North Texas entered its game versus FAU last Saturday averaging 16 turnovers per game, which ranked 315th in the nation. However in their last two games, UNT averaged just 10.5 turnovers per game.
ASSIST RATE
North Texas' Javion Hamlet has an assist rate of 35.7, which means he's assisted on 35.7 percent of all Mean Green field goals that happened when he was on the court. Hamlet's assist rate ranks first in Conference USA and is 32nd in the nation as of Friday. Hamlet is the only C-USA player inside the top 100 in the nation.
RESPECT THE RANGE
After starting the year 2-of-17 from deep over the first nine games of the year, Thomas Bell has made 15-of-26 (.576) from deep since (9 games). His 57.6 percent 3-point field goal percentage over the last nine games is the best on the team. Umoja Gibson is only players on the team to make more 3-pointers (28) over the last nine games than Bell.
TAKING OVER
Javion Hamlet has started to take over as the team's floor general. In the team's first seven games, Hamlet had 15 assists and 24 turnovers (.6 A/TO). But in UNT's last 11 games, he's had 69 assists (6.2 per game) and just 28 turnovers (2.4 A/TO). Over the last 11 games, Hamlet's 69 assists is tops in C-USA.
