Project Nepal Raises Over 3,000 Dollars

DENTON — Head Mean Green tennis coach Sujay Lama held his eighth annual Project Nepal fundraiser at the Mean Green Tennis Complex.
Over 3,000 dollars were raised this year, marking eight straight year the event has raised over a thousand dollars. The money raised will go to support and educate the youth of Lama's home country, Nepal. In addition to raising money, the event aims to bring awareness to issues facing the country.
The event, which has grown every year, had well over 100 people from the Denton community attended and included cultural performances.
"When I left Nepal 30 years ago one thing my mom told me was to never forget about the motherland and to always give back," Lama said. "America is a amazing country with great people who want to help.
"To see this event grow each year and see the community get involved is special," he added.
The all-day event featured a tennis tournament that had contestants ranging in age from adolescents to seniors.
As usual, current and former North Texas tennis student-athletes helped with the event.
Founded in 1991, Project Nepal aims to educate orphaned and indigent children in Nepal who lack access to affordable education. In the last seven year alone, the foundation has raised well over 25,000 dollars.
