AMES, Iowa – North Texas swimming and diving concluded it's 2019-2020 dual campaign with a split decision in a double dual Friday and Saturday. The Mean Green came away with a 189-163 win over Northern Iowa but suffered a 227-121 loss to Iowa State.
Â
"We had a solid meet with Iowa State and Northern Iowa," head coach Brittany Roth said. "It was fun getting to see the team in one last dual meet before we switch gears and really zone in on the Conference USA Championships."
Â
The Cyclones (5-4) had control over the entire meet, winning 14 of the 19 events throughout the two days of competition. North Texas (4-3) came away with victories in the 50 and 200 Freestyle courtesy of Leigh Faires McGee. The junior also snagged third place finishes in the 200 and 500 Freestyle races.
Â
After Iowa State took the top-two spots in the 200 Medley Relay to open the event, freshman London Farris got the Mean Green some much needed points by coming in second in the 1000 Freestyle with a time of 10:35.28.
Â
McGee would then pick up the first of her two wins with a 1:51.78 in the 200 Freestyle followed by a second place finish from senior Jowita Sienczyk in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 57.45.
Â
Sophomore Alvena Walpole would get the Mean Green their third top-two finish of the meet with a 2:09.58 in the 200 Butterfly which put her in second place. McGee would follow Walpole up with her second win, notching a 23.94 in the 50 Freestyle, freshman Kaitlyn Carr clocked a 24.59 which was good for third in the same event.
Â
A second place finish by the Mean Green in the 400 Freestyle would be followed by Farris taking second in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 52.88 before North Texas would get their final top-two finish of the meet in the 200 Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:36.92.
Â
North Texas will now shift gears and focus to the 2020 Conference USA Swimming and Diving Championships which are set for February 26-29 in Atlanta, Georgia.
