On March 2, 2019 the North Texas Swimming and Diving team left Atlanta, Georgia after claiming their highest finish in school history at the Conference USA Championships, the third place spot.

With one week to go before the start of the 2020 Conference swimming and diving championships, it's time to look back on the 2019-2020 regular season and see how the Mean Green have lined up against the competition all season.

vs. Arkansas-Little Rock | September 28, 2019
The Mean Green opened the season with a 213-84 win over the Trojans after taking 15 of the 16 events during the season's first dual meet.
Â
Junior Leigh Faires McGee led the Mean Green with three individual wins in the 100, 200 and 500-freestyle races. She also was a part of the first place 200-freestyle relay team alongside senior Jowita Sienczyk, sophomore Bryanna Vasquez and freshman London Farris.

During the season's first meet, North Texas debuted 12 freshmen who combined for seven top-3 finishes and three first place finishes courtesy of Kaitlyn Carr (50 free), June Harris and Jenny Holwell (400-Medley relay).

Houston Diving Invitational | October 11-12, 2019
The divers continued the 2019-2020 campaign by taking fourth-place in the Houston Diving Invitational. A weekend that diving coach Mark Murdock described as having "tough competition" the Mean Green made strides in their first individual action of the season away from the swimmers.

The Mean Green had three top-10 finishers in the one-meter competition led by junior Meghan Miller who finished sixth with a score of 228.85.

at SMU | November 2, 2019
North Texas suffered their first dual loss of the season when they traveled to Dallas to take on the Mustangs. During the dual the Mean Green turned in 33 individual season bests highlighted by three from McGee.

Against the toughest competition the Mean Grene had faced so far during the season, the team made head coach Brittany Roth excited for what the year had in store.

"We had a team that stood up to SMU and LSU athletes and hit such impressive marks," Roth said. "It's exciting to think about what the future holds for this group."

Kansas Classic and Phill Hansel Invitational | November 22-24, 2019
The team split for the first time during 2019 when the swimmers traveled to the Kansas Classic in Lawrence, Kansas and the divers headed back to Houston for the Phill Hansel Invitational.

The swimmers took home a fourth-place finish in Kansas led by McGee and sophomore Alvena Walpole who were both named to the All-Invitational team.

North Texas placed 18 swimmers in the top-3 of their respected individual race finials including six appearance in A-Finals and 22 appearances in B-Finals.

The Mean Green climbed from a fifth place spot at the end of day one to their final fourth place spot thanks to a committee of quality swims during days two and three. North Texas had big performances from the 200 Medley Relay team, sophomore Karigan Stanley in the B-Final of the 400 IM, Carr in the B-Final of the 100 Fly, Holwell in the B-final of the 100 Breast, Sienczyk in the A-Final of the 100 Back and Walpole in the A-Final of the 200 Free.

The divers finished 11 in the Phill Hansel Invitational, an event that was for both swimmers and divers that only saw the Mean Green competing divers. Miller led the way with two A-Final appearances in the platform and one-meter dives.

vs. TCU | December 7, 2019
North Texas took their sixth consecutive dual victory from the Horned Frogs by a score of 161.5-138.5.

The Mean Green took first in nine of the 16 events including the first win of the season for junior Ula Michalczyk in the 200 Breaststroke.

North Texas got a huge 11 points at the end of the meet when McGee closed out the 200 Freestyle relay by edging out the Horned Frog swimmer by .31 of a second.

at Rice | January 10, 2020
The Mean Green fell to conference power Rice to kick off the 2020 portion of the season. North Texas was competing in the pool for the first time in over a month and despite the loss, coach Roth was optimistic.

North Texas' only win in an event came in the fashion of a 200-Freestyle victory by Leigh Faires McGee, her third win on the season in the same event.

vs. Incarnate Word | January 17, 2020
North Texas closed out the home campaign with another win over the Cardinals. The 163-127 victory on senior day gave the Mean Green their third consecutive undefeated home slate.

The Mean Green fell behind in the meet after the Cardinals came out swinging and took three of the first five events. Wins from the 400 Medley Relay and Holwell in the 100 Breaststroke would bring the score to 49-44 in favor of the Cardinals.

The teams would trade wins the rest of the meet before heading into the final break at a 134-132 score in favor of the Mean Green.
Â
North Texas would close out the meet with a big win in the 400 Freestyle Relay after an incredible swim by McGee to close out the win.
Â
North Texas would close out the day by celebrating their two seniors; Jowita Sienczyk and diver Gabryella Silva. Coach Roth knew the importance of getting a win on senior day, and was proud of her team for getting the job done.

"I think the win puts a little cherry on top of their last home meet," Roth said. "It's a night that has a lot of emotion that I don't think people expect to have and for those two today meant a lot and for the team to pull out the win I think it was really great for those two."

at Iowa State and vs. Northern Iowa | February 1, 2020
North Texas closed out dual action by taking one of two during a triangular meet in Ames, Iowa. The Mean Green fell 227-121 to Iowa State and took the victory over Northern Iowa 189-163.

The end of the regular season led to the quest for another solid finish in the Conference championships. The Mean Green will be in Atlanta on Wednesday the 26 to start championship action, more info is to come from Mean Green sports.
