DENTON — The North Texas women's tennis team has signed Tyler Junior College standout Lucie Devier, a Etrechy France native who as of Monday is ranked No. 2 in the nation in the NJCAA in singles and doubles.
"We are very excited to welcome Lucie to our Mean Green family," said head coach Sujay Lama. "She is an aggressive 'all court' player with a great sense and feel for net play. Lucie will be an impact player for us. Her energy and enthusiasm is contagious and will add to the strong culture of our tennis program."
Devier reached the Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Tournament last year for singles and doubles after her regional title. She was the national runner-up in both events.
This year, she already has 10 singles wins for Tyler including a dominating 6-3, 6-0 victory over the No. 5 nationally ranked player. Three of her 10 victories this season have come against ranked opponents. She's undefeated so far this year against Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Association opponents.
In doubles, she's 14-3 so far this year and has won nine straight doubles matches as of Monday. She's led her doubles team to victories over NCAA Division I opponents such as Louisiana Tech, Stephen F. Austin and Abilene Christian.
Devier has led the Apache to dual match victories over ACU and Angelo State, both NCAA opponents. Overall Tyler is a perfect 7-0 on the year thanks to Devier.
Entering junior college, Devier was a 10-UTR, four-star recruit. She was a French National Champion in doubles and made the quarterfinals in the national singles tournament. She holds victories over opponents who were ranked in the top 50 of the French National Women's Open.
Devier joins highly touted recruit Saki Oyama to sign with the Mean Green tennis team this year. Both Devier and Oyama will join North Texas next school year.
