MGSD Finds Early Podium at CUSA Championships

ATLANTA – The North Texas swimming and diving team got off to a hot start during day one of the 2020 Conference USA Swimming and Diving championships. The Mean Green were able to snag a medal on the second swim of the day to put themselves in prime position going into day two.

Leigh Faires McGee, Bryanna Vasquez, London Farris and Alvena Walpole combined to clock a 7:24.03 in the 800 Yard Freestyle Relay to take home bronze and get the Mean Green on the podium for the first time only two championship events into the meet.

North Texas just missed the podium in the first event of the meet after Jowita Sienczyk, Jenny Holwell, Micayla Morgan and Kaitlyn Carr clocked a 1:43.05 in the 200 Yard Medley Relay to finish fourth just behind the Florida Atlantic team that clocked a 1:41.82.

Defending champion FIU took home gold in both events to start the meet while Rice took home both silver medals up for grabs.

Competition will resume Thursday, February 27 with prelims starting at 9:30 a.m. Finals for day two will being at 5 p.m. and be streamed live on CUSA.tv. Medals will be up for grabs in the 500 Yard Freestyle, 200 Yard IM, 50 Yard Freestyle, Three Meter Diving and 200 Yard Freestyle Relay.
