The offseason is over and North Texas softball is back and ready to start their Conference USA title defense. The Mean Green open up the 2020 season on the road as they take part in the Cowgirl and Louisiana Classics. Matchups with Prairie View A&M and McNeese State await the Mean Green in Lake Charles while matchups with Arkansas-Pine Bluff and No. 10 Louisiana await North Texas in Lafayette.

North Texas is entering the second year under head coach Rodney DeLong. In year one, the Mean Green posted a program best 35 wins while also setting single-season records for runs scored (279), RBIs (257), walks taken (207), doubles (78) and shutouts (8).

The Mean Green return a senior-heavy lineup featuring eight players in their final year of eligibility highlighted by preseason All-Conference honorees Katie Clark and Lacy Gregory. The North Texas pitching staff is also deeper than it has been in years past including Conference USA's Preseason Pitcher of the Year Hope Trautwein who posted 22 wins and a 2.19 ERA a season ago.

Last Time Out Against The Opponents
Friday's matchup with Prairie View A&M will be the sixth all-time between the two programs with the Mean Green holding a 5-0 advantage over the Lady Panthers. The last time out between the two squads came on February 25, 2018 in Denton when the Mean Green won on a Nicole Ochotnicki walk-off single to take the 3-2 victory.

The Mean Green and McNeese State will square off for the second and third time on Friday and Sunday. The Cowgirls took the first matchup between the two teams 5-2 in March 2014. North Texas pitching coach Jamie Allred player her collegiate ball in Lake Charles and was the winning pitcher in the one previous matchup between the two squads, tossing 8.0 innings. Allred was named Southland Conference Pitcher of the Year that season.

North Texas will square off with Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday for the second time in program history. The Mean Green downed the Golden Lions 9-1 on February 15, 2019 in Denton.

Saturday's affair with No. 10 Louisiana will be the 39 all-time between the two schools, North Texas is 3-35 in the previous affairs winning the last matchup between the two. On February 23, 2019 in Waco the Mean Green handed the Ragin' Cajuns their first or only six losses of the season. Hope Trautwein went the distance in that matchup, surrendering just one earned run on three hits.
