Hamlet Named USBWA All-District

INDIANAPOLIS — The U.S. Basketball Writers Association has voted Javion Hamlet to District VII's All-District Team. He's the first Mean Green men's basketball player to be named USBWA All-District since Tony Mitchell in 2011.
Each all-district team is made up of 10 student-athletes. District VII is represented by Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana.
The other nine individuals named to the District VII All-District team are Desmond Bane (TCU), Jared Butler (Baylor), Jhivvan Jackson (UTSA), Isaiah Joe (Arkansas), Mason Jones (Arkansas), Sha'markus Kennedy (McNeese State), Skylar Mays (LSU), Markquis Nowell (Little Rock) and Nijal Pearson (Texas State). Baylor's Jared Butler was named the district's Player of the Year. Hamlet and Jackson were the only Conferene USA players named all-district this year.
Hamlet so far has been named first team all-conference and C-USA's Newcomer of the Year as well as all-district. In league play, he led the Mean Green to a program-best 14-4 record and a regular season championship, their first in 31 years. Hamlet led C-USA in league play in assists (95), assists per game (5.3), assists/turnover ratio (2.7), free throw percentage (87.8%) and was fourth in scoring (17.9 ppg) and 11th in field goal percentage (52.9%).
The USBWA is made up of over 900 voters. There are nine geographic districts.
The 2020 C-USA Basketball Championships are March 11-14 at the Star in Frisco. Ticket packages can be purchased here. The Mean Green women's basketball team plays its first round game on Wednesday at 2 p.m. CT. The UNT men's team has a first round bye and won't play until Thursday at 6 p.m. CT.
