Forslund Ties For Ninth At Final Tournament
Big weekend for Viktor Forslund, who notched a top-10 finish as we tied for 7th out of 21 teams in the desert! #GMG #PinHunters https://t.co/PQrWW0g7SB

Though they didn't know at the time, the Mean Green men's golf team played its final tournament of the 2019-20 season back in late February, just before the COVID-19 outbreak took over the United States and ended sports seasons at all levels.
At that tournament, the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate in Palm Desert, California, junior Viktor Forslund, one of the team leaders throughout the year, carded the best individual finish for the program this year when he finished tied for ninth after a 69-71-72 (4-under) to lead the Mean Green to a tie for seventh place out of 21 teams in the field.
UNT coach Brad Stracke said Forslund, who stepped into a leadership role this year with the graduation of several key seniors the previous two years, had started to play some of his best golf before the plug was pulled on the season unexpectedly.
Viktor has developed nicely over the last three years. I believe, this spring, he was starting to gain the most confidence of his young career. Viktor was playing on the same level as some of the best in college golf. He has always had the talent, he just needed the belief in himself. I hope he can continue to gain trust in his abilities this summer and next year.UNT coach Brad Stracke

Forslund was the team's scoring leader through the seven tournaments it played, as the junior from Sweden finished the year with a 73.00 scoring average. He also had the low round of the year with a 65 at the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic in November.
Forslund said he believed he was starting to get his game where he wanted it to be leading into the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate and felt the entire team was on the brink of figuring things out just when the season was abruptly halted.
I really feel like I was on the right track. Even before the tournament, I felt like my game was getting strong and then I had a good finish which helped boost my confidence. Also, I think I’m not only talking for myself but for the whole team when I’m saying that we were on the right track. The fact that our season ended after that tournament was truly unfortunate, but I’m feel like we can bring that momentum over to the fall. We proved in that tournament that we can compete with the best when we had three good rounds instead of one or two good rounds and one poor round like we’ve had in other tournaments.Viktor Forslund, junior

Viktor shot a 69-71-72 to finish tied for 9th at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate and we finished tied for seventh out of 21 teams and really found a groove.
