Bruffett Earns C-USA Scholarship
6/11/2020 11:13:00 AM | Women's Soccer
DALLAS – Conference USA has announced that North Texas soccer captain and 2020 graduate Logan Bruffett has received the Jim Castañeda Postgraduate Scholarship Thursday.
Bruffett, who graduated from UNT this past May with a biology degree, is entering physician assistant school.
Along with being a captain on this past season's conference champion Mean Green soccer team, Bruffett was an all-conference honoree. She started every match for UNT and scored six goals and had two assists. She scored the match winning goal in the C-USA title game in the Mean Green's win over Florida Atlantic in the league tournament. Bruffett, who graduated from UNT in just three years, has been a crucial member of the team since she arrived in 2017.
She played in 61 matches for the Mean Green over the last three years and made 44 starts. She led UNT to three straight conference tournament titles and three NCAA Tournament appearances. As a sophomore in 2018, North Texas won both the C-USA regular season title and tournament championship. She scored nine goals in her career with the Mean Green playing everything from defense to forward. UNT posted an overall combined record of 44-13-8 during her three years.
Off the field the Rockwall native was in a class of her own.
Among many academic awards, she was named a 2019 Academic All-American and received the UNT Golden Eagle Award, which is the highest student-leadership award at UNT. Every semester she received the UNT President Award for a perfect 4.0 G.P.A. While at North Texas, Bruffett worked at local hospitals and clinics. And she consistently posted the highest G.P.A. among all C-USA women's soccer student-athletes.
The 12th annual award is named in honor of Dr. Jim Castañeda who served Rice for 46 years as an educator, coach and faculty athletics representative before he passed away in 2008. Every season, C-USA grants the $4,000 scholarship to distinguished graduates selected by the league's Faculty Athletics Representatives and approved by the Board of Directors.
