Mean Green Start Strong At TCU Invite

FORT WORTH — The North Texas tennis played in its first competition since October on Saturday and the Mean Green looked ready for the spring season, which starts next week.
The Mean Green finished the first day of the TCU Invite on Saturday with three singles wins and a doubles victory. Junior Lucie Devier led UNT with a singles straight set win over a TCU opponent. Devier and senior Nidhi Surapaneni also won a doubles match with a 6-3 victory over a Central Arkansas opponent.
"After a month of break for the team and hard work, I felt really good on the court," said Devier. "My conditioning is better and I took the advantage in the important moments. It was a good fight and it's giving me confidence for the rest of the tournament. I have some points to work on to be a better player. Overall it's a good first day. It was good to be back on the court with all the family, energy and fight were the key of this day. Let's go Mean Green."
North Texas also in the first day of the multi-day tournament picked up singles victories from Saki Oyama and Kexuan Zhou.
Oyama beat a Central Arkansas opponent in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0. Zhou also beat a Central Arkansas opponent in singles in straight sets with a 6-0, 6-2 win.
Surapaneni had a heartbreaking loss in singles. The senior was up 7-5 in the set breaker but fell 8-10.
UNT will be back in action on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. CT at the TCU Invite.
