Mean Green Soccer Releases Schedule
1/25/2021 9:00:00 AM | Women's Soccer
DENTON — The North Texas soccer team, winners of 16 conference championships, a league record eight Conference USA trophies including at least one in the last six straight years have announced its upcoming schedule for the season.
The Mean Green have 13 opponents on their slate, seven at home, and in non-conference will welcome Oklahoma (March 4), No. 12 Oklahoma State (March 14) and Texas Tech (March 28) to the Mean Green Soccer and Track & Field Stadium. UNT is scheduled to host Midwestern State on Feb. 12 for its home opener.
Last season North Texas celebrated its 25th season as a program by posting a 15-5-1 overall record. They hosted and won the C-USA Women's Soccer Championship. It was the Mean Green's third straight league tournament title and earned them their seventh trip to the NCAA Tournament.
Last season, though, is now over a year ago as the COVID-19 pandemic postponed the usual fall college soccer season to the spring for the first time. But that hasn't discouraged the veteran led team whose seniors have only lost twice at home and have not lost a home match since their freshman season in 2017.
The upcoming season will also be the first time UNT has played its Metroplex rival SMU since 2011 when the Mean Green beat the Mustangs 2-1 in Denton. North Texas is scheduled to face SMU in Dallas and is scheduled to be the Mean Green's season-opener on Feb. 7.
Due to the pandemic, Conference USA is moving from a normal 10-match league schedule to just six matches all against C-USA West Division opponents: at Rice (March 7), vs. LA Tech (March 12), at Southern Miss (March 21), vs. UAB (March 26), at UTEP (April 2), vs. UTEP (April 9).
After hosting the 2019 C-USA Women's Soccer Championship, UNT will travel to Rice in Houston to play in this season's C-USA Championship, which is scheduled to run from April 13-17. The NCAA Selection Show is planned to held April 18.
UNT returns seven starters from last season's title winning squad including C-USA Goalkeeper of the Year Kelsey Brann and fellow all-conference field players Brooke Lampe, Berklee Peters and Allie Byrd.
