WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
The North Texas men's basketball team begins conference play on Friday at UT San Antonio. They will also play the Roadrunners again in San Antonio on Saturday per this season's new Conference USA scheduling.
UNT was supposed to start conference play last weekend against UAB but due to positive COVID-19 tests within the Blazers' program the two games were postponed to a later date yet to be determined.
UTSA opened C-USA play last week at Rice and got swept by the Owls in the two game set.
The Mean Green have beaten UTSA five of the last six times they've played and fourth-year UNT head coach Grant McCasland is 3-1 versus the Roadrunners. The one loss came on Jan. 12, 2019 in San Antonio. UTSA's now senior guard Jhivvan Jackson made a game-winning jumper with 3.0 seconds remaining to lead his team to a 76-74 victory.

NEWS AND NOTES
- UNT's Javion Hamlet is six assists away from the 200th of his career.
- Under fourth-year head coach Grant McCasland, North Texas is 40-7 (.851) when they score 70 or more points. UTSA enters Friday's game giving up an average of 78.6 points per game but they score an average 80.4 points per game. UNT's winning percentage under McCasland only gets better when they score 80 or more points. They are 27-2 (.931) in games where they score 80+. Under McCasland, UNT is 12-1 when they score 90 or more points. They beat UTSA last season 98-78 in Denton.
- UTSA will enter Friday's game with a 4-5 overall record. Fourth-year head coach Grant McCasland is 29-5 at UNT when coaching against teams with a losing record. And since the start of the 2018-19 season, the Mean Green are a combined 22-1 against teams that have a losing record.
- In UNT and UTSA's only meeting last season, the Mean Green struggled to contain the Roadrunners' Jhivvan Jackson and Keaton Wallace as they combined to score 61 points. However, the eight other UTSA players who played combined to score just 17 points. Half of them didn't score at all as UNT won 98-78.
- The 98 points North Texas scored last season versus UTSA were the most points the Mean Green have ever scored against the Roadrunners and the third-most points UNT has scored against an active C-USA opponent.
