DENTON – The North Texas swimming and diving team were unable to get a win during their lone conference dual of the season. The Mean Green fell to Rice by a score of 175-118 on a day that celebrated the careers of four individual seniors.
Â
"I was very impressed in our effort today against Rice," head coach Brittany Roth said. "I know Rice is a really strong competitor but the times that our athletes were able to achieve today are really indicative of the work that they've been putting in since the beginning of school."
Â
Rice set the momentum of the meet in the first event by taking the top two spots in the 200 medley relay. While North Texas was able to get a top-three finisher in all but one event, they wouldn't get an individual win until the 200 free when senior Leigh Faires McGee clocked a 1:52.92 for the 41 individual win of her North Texas career.
Â
Senior Meghan Miller would give the Mean Green their second event win with a 240.52 in the three-meter dive. McGee would pick up her second win of the day and 42 of her career in the 100 free with a time of 51.47, she would follow that up with win number three on the day and 43 on her career in the 500 free with a time of 5:04.43.
Â
"Obviously Leigh Faires getting those three wins was huge," Roth added. "Huge for her, huge for the team but huge to do it on senior day. The time's she achieved were very impressive"
Â
Miller would complete the diving sweep with a score of 271.57 in the one-meter and the Mean Green would finish the day with a second place finish in the 400 free relay.
Â
The Mean Green will complete their dual schedule at Incarnate Word next Friday, January 15 before they prepare for the Conference USA Swimming and Diving Championships in Atlanta, Georgia February 24-27.
