Devier, Adams Advance To Regional Semifinals

FT WORTH — The North Texas tennis doubles team Jasmine Adams and Lucie Devier advanced to the semifinals of the 2021 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Texas Regional Doubles Tournament after a 8-5 win Sunday afternoon over a Baylor doubles team that was the regional tournament's No. 10 overall seed.
The UNT freshman and senior duo are the first Mean Green doubles team to make it to the semifinal round of the tournament since 2018 when Tamuna Kutubidze and Maria Kononova won the Texas Regional doubles championship.
"They fought hard and truly left it all on the court," said assistant coach Rodrigo de Almeida. "From the first point you could see and feel the energy. The commitment to hard work and attention to details off the court as we have been consistently talking about with the team allowed them to feel very confident in the big moments. Monday will be another battle against one more Baylor team and we will focus on our recovery and preparation to be ready for it."
Sunday morning in the round of 16, Adams and Devier beat the tournament's No. 13 overall seed from Texas Tech, 8-4, to advance to the quarterfinals. A few hours later they won their quarterfinal match over Baylor.
Adams and Devier will play their semifinal match Monday at 9 a.m. CT against a Baylor doubles team that is the regional tournament's No. 2 overall seed.
