Soccer Secures 27th Straight Winning Season

DENTON — With a 5-0 win over FIU Friday night, the Mean Green soccer team secured its 27th straight winning season. The program has still never had a losing season.
With just three matches remaining, UNT improved to 7-3-3 on the year after the win Friday night. North Texas head coach John Hedlund, who is the program's only head coach ever after he founded the team in 1995, is just one of three active women's soccer coaches in the nation to have coached at one university for over 10 years and never had a losing season. The other two are North Carolina's Anson Dorrance and Texas A&M's G. Guerrieri.
Another impressive active streak the Mean Green are also working on is that they have not lost a home conference match since Oct. 31, 2008. After Friday, UNT has now gone 64 straight home conference matches without a loss. They set the NCAA record two years ago and still haven't lost.
UNT is on the road for its next two home matches. They travel to UAB next Friday for the first of the two.
