Record-setting weekend sets team up for stretch run
DENTON, Texas — North Texas Swimming and Diving finished the weekend with two meets down and several accolades earned. Junior Saylor Hawkins continued her program-altering run by breaking the UNT Platform record, and freshman Laura Mazzotta placed in three A-Finals with three personal bests.
At the Kansas Classic, the Mean Green finished with six top-five times and a plethora of personal bests across the 19 swimming events while finishing 4th as a team. Mazzotta finished eighth in the 200 IM (2:04.74), less than a second from the school record with her third place finish in the 100 Breaststroke (1:02.10) and second in the 200 Breast (2:14.95). Junior London Farris earned fifth in the 200 Freestyle (1:52.26), and freshman Shaena McCloud placed 4th in the 50 Free (23.13).
In Houston at the Phil Hansel Invite, the diving squad racked up 30 points while other schools competed with their full teams. Hawkins posted a 209.85, nearly 30 points higher than her previous high this season and over a point above the school record posted a year-and-a-half ago by Meghan Miller.
The Mean Green will be back together on December 15 in Arkansas for a matchup with Little Rock. Follow @MeanGreenSwim on Twitter and @MeanGreenSwimDive on Instagram for up to the minute news and keep an eye on the team throughout the season at MeanGreenSports.com.
