UNT Drops Exhibition At No. 9 Texas A&M, 1-0

College Station, Texas — The Mean Green soccer team fired off 22 shots at No. 9, Texas A&M in Saturday's exhibition but lost 1-0.
The Aggies, who were the No. 3 seed in this past fall SEC Tournament, scored on penalty kick that was rocketed into the top shelf in the 16th minute. However, that was just one of five shots TAMU put on goal against North Texas goalkeeper Kelsey Brann all match.
Saturday was UNT's second exhibition of the year and comes after the Mean Green had three regular season matches canceled by the opponent. North Texas beat Incarnate Word 1-0 in San Antonio on Jan. 29 in its first exhibition this year.
Against Texas A&M on Saturday, the Mean Green played seven off the bench. Starting midfielder Elle Marie DeFrain led the team with five shots. The senior had two late in the first half that missed just high. She piut two of her five shots on target.
Probably the best scoring chance for North Texas came in the second half when sophomore Allie Byrd was able to get ahead of the the TAMU backline and had a clean look at the net. But the TAMU keeper Kenna Caldwell managed to make a diving save. Byrd, a forward, played 59 minutes on Saturday and took two shots.
In total, the Mean Green held possession on the Aggies' side of the field for 57 percent of their possessions and had the ball in the attacking third of the field for 26 percent of their possession.
After the match, UNT headed straight to LSU Alexandria where they are scheduled to play the Generals on Sunday in what will be the first regular season match of the year for UNT. It will be the first all-time meeting between the two programs. Sunday's match will kick-off at 1 p.m. CT and can be live streamed on here.
