DENTON - The North Texas tennis team is set to begin Conference USA play at Rice on Thursday at 1 p.m., the first of two matches this week.
The Mean Green (2-8) will be looking to get back into the win column and get an early leg up on their conference foes after the match was rescheduled from its original Sunday time slot due to rain in the Houston area.Â
"Playing Rice is a huge challenge but also a great opportunity," UNT head coach Sujay Lama said. "They have been the most dominant team in our conference since we've joined the league. We are excited to compete and see where we stack up."
North Texas is coming off five straight losses, including three last week - all at home - but in their previous two matches, against Memphis and Tulane, the Mean Green showed plenty of fight and promise moving forward.
"We have been competing at such a high level match in and match out, and we're so close to putting the pieces together," Lama said. "Our focus has solely been on the process, and we know the results will come if we continue to believe and work hard."
After their match at Rice, the Mean Green will return home to Waranch Tennis Complex to play host to Missouri State on Saturday at 9:30 a.m., before resuming conference play next week against Louisiana Tech and UTSA.
