Mean Green Drop Conference Opener At Rice

The Mean Green (2-9, 0-1) dropped the doubles point when the No. 3 doubles team of Saki Oyama and Sophia Hummel fell 6-4, and those two dropped their singles matches in the No. 5 and No. 6 spots, respectively. The match was clinched for Rice (9-2, 1-0) when UNT's Lucie Devier fell 6-4, 6-1 in her No. 1 singles match. Maria Ponomareva was on track to win a point for the Mean Green after taking the first set in her No. 2 singles match 6-3 before the match was clinched and play was halted at 2-2 in the second set. Kexuan Zhou was up 4-3 in the second set of the No. 4 singles match after dropping the first set, and Surapaneni was tied 5-5 in the second set of her No. 3 singles match after dropping the first set when the match was clinched.
