DENTON — The Mean Green soccer team (RV) concluded the preseason with a 10-1 win over Brookhaven College at the North Texas Soccer & Track and Field Stadium Sunday afternoon.
Eight different North Texas players scored and they outshout the Bears 38-to-2.
"It was a good way to finish the preseason," said senior captain Brooke Lampe. "We got to try a lot of different things and a lot of girls got to get some action. We're definitely ready for the actual season to begin."
UNT had goals scored by Elle Marie DeFrain (8'), Allie Byrd (13'), Madi Drenowatz ('37), Devyn Flannery (70'), Hadley Williams ('77), Olivia Klein (83') while sophomores Taylor Tufts and Haley Roberson each netted two goals for the Mean Green on Sunday.
The Mean Green held Brookhaven to zero shots in the first half as they fired off 19 in the opening frame to take a 4-0 lead into the midway break. UNT newcomer Madi Drenowatz scored her first goal in the green and white on Sunday. The transfer also took a team-high eight shots. Tufts and Klein each converted on penalty kick opportunities in the second half.
The 16-time conference champions begin the program's 27th year on Friday with a home match versus Southern. First kick to Friday's season-opener is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
