Jason Gwyn named new softball assistant coach

DENTON, Texas – Defending Conference USA champion North Texas softball and head coach Rodney DeLong have announced the addition of new assistant coach Jason Gwyn.
"I feel very fortunate to bring Coach Gwyn into our program," head coach Rodney DeLong said. "He brings a wealth of knowledge to our team and our staff. Not only is he a great coach, but he is also a great family man. The future of UNT softball is bright, and I am excited about what we are building. Jason is going to be a big part of that."
The Texas Tech graduate last helmed the Hebron High School softball team in Carrollton for five seasons as its head coach from 2017-21. Gwyn was previously the head coach at Little Elm High School for the 2016 season after a stint at Hebron as an assistant from 2011-15.
He makes his return to Denton for the first time since 2006 when he served for two seasons as an assistant at Texas Woman's University.
Prior to his time in high school athletics, Gwyn was the head coach of the Austrian National Team in 2008 when the team placed third in the European Championships. He also coached the junior national squad to a seventh-place finish and the local professional team to third in the Euro Cup.
"I'm extremely excited to be given the opportunity to join this great staff," Gwyn said. "Coach DeLong has a history of success and accomplishment, and I'm grateful to him for wanting me to be a part of the program he is building at UNT. I look forward to helping he and Coach Allred continue to push the Mean Green into the forefront of the national softball landscape."
UNT Softball is coming off a 38-12 season, including an 18-2 record in conference and the first outright conference championship in program history. The team also earned a Conference USA record four year-end awards and placed eight student-athletes on the all-conference list, a program best.
