Senior Jordan Gorham led the way for the Mean Green
DENTON, Texas — North Texas swimmers competed in their first meet of the season Friday morning with each of the five athletes finishing in the top 70.
Senior Jordan Gorham earned 34th with a time of 1:08:48.3, sophomore Izabela Zekuciova finished 42nd in 1:09:37.7, seniors Bryanna Vasquez and Karigan Stanley went back to back with 1:11:02.2 and 1:11:02.5, respectively, and freshman Lexie Green rounded out the group at 1:15:55.3.
The five kilometer race, a little over three miles, began at 8:30 in Lawrence, Kansas with a temperature of 72 ℉. The swimmers made their way around seven buoys placed within Lone Star Lake. After two laps and over an hour in the water, the Mean Green claimed 11th place.
"I'm really proud of our team today," UNT head coach Brittany Roth said. "We had a great showing at the Open Water Championships, and I'm impressed with the fight our team showed through the race."
North Texas will return its full team to the water for the first time this season on Oct. 9 in the Green vs. White meet at Pohl Recreation Center & Peb Natatorium in Denton.
