1/26/2022 8:00:00 AM | Men's Basketball
The Mean Green (13-4, 6-1 C-USA), who head into the away contest as just one of seven teams in the country that have not lost a road game yet this year (3-0), will be looking to make history and be the first UNT team to win its first four road games in a season with a victory Thursday over the Golden Eagles (6-12, 1-4, C-USA).
North Texas makes its way to Reed Green Coliseum riding a five-game winning streak and has won 11 of its last 12 overall. UNT has won four straight over USM. Thursday's tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on ESPN+ and the Mean Green Sports.Network, which can be found on The Varsity App.
"This team enjoys playing on the road," said senior Thomas Bell. "We're a close knit group and playing on the road allows us to be together and focus on the games. Southern Miss is a solid team that we have to be locked in for."
GOING FOR 4-0
North Texas heads into Thursday's game at Southern Miss with a 3-0 record in road games this season. It is the first time since the 1975-76 season UNT has won its first three road games during a single season. UNT has never won its first four road games since moving to the DI ranks in 1957.
ONE OF JUST SEVEN
As of Tuesday, North Texas is just one of seven teams in the nation that has not lost a road game this season yet: No. 1 Auburn (5-0), No. 7 UCLA (5-0), No. 4 Baylor (5-0), No. 10 Michigan State (4-0), Loyola Chicago (4-0), North Texas (3-0), No. 2 Gonzaga (1-0).
C-USA FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK/MONTH
North Texas freshman Aaron Scott was named C-USA Freshman of the Week on Monday Jan. 24. It was the third time this month Scott has been named the league's freshman of the week. He's the only C-USA freshman to have earned the honor 3+ times this year. Scott leads all C-USA freshmen in total rebounds (72) and offensive rebounds (30) despite playing just 15 minutes per game. Scott's 82 total points are the fourth-most in C-USA but the most among C-USA freshmen who have played less than 400 total minutes so far this year. Scott has played just 269 total minutes headed into Thursday.
11 OF LAST 12
North Texas has won 11 of its last 12 games headed into Thursday's showdown with Southern Miss. It's the third time in the Grant McCasland era (5th season) the Mean Green have gone on a 12-game stretch where they have won at least 11 games.
- In 2019-20 UNT won 12 out of 13 games during conference.
- In 2018-19 UNT began the season winning 16 of its first 17 games.
Headed into Thursday, North Texas leads the nation in fewest 3-pointers given up per game. Opponents are only making 4.1 per game on UNT who have given up just 71 3-pointers this season. That's the second-fewest total in the nation. UNT is the only team in C-USA to not have given up 100+ 3-pointers so far this season.
HAVEN'T TRAILED SINCE...
North Texas hasn't trailed in a game since the first half of its Jan. 15th 65-60 win at WKU. Entering Thursday at USM, North Texas has either been ahead or tied for 105 minutes and seven seconds of game action consecutively. They didn't trail at all last week in either its game against Charlotte or Old Dominion.

North Texas returns to the Super Pit on Thursday Feb. 3 to host UTEP. The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. CT. They then will host UTSA Saturday Feb. 5 at 5 p.m. CT.
