Soccer Earns Tough Point Against UAB

DENTON —The North Texas soccer team drew 0-0 against first place UAB Sunday afternoon.
The Mean Green outshot the Blazers 19-4 and hit the woodwork twice in the match.
"I've been fortunate to coach in a lot of championship games throughout my career and this one felt very much like one," said head coach John Hedlund. "We continued to press throughout the game and I really thought something was going to give especially the one that hit the inside of the post. Nevertheless, I'm proud of how hard my team played today. We'll take the tie and get ready for Rice next week."
After its two-match conference road trip last week that saw them get two shutout victories, UNT (7-4-2, 3-1-1) returned home Sunday and took a point in a hard-fought draw with UAB (7-2-3, 4-0-1). The draw keeps the Mean Green in third place of the Conference USA standings with 10 points, just three points behind the Blazers and two points behind the Rice Owls.
UNT's draw with UAB marked the Blazers' first-time dropping points in conference this year.
"Over the past couple weeks, we've focused on defensive chemistry and right now we're playing for and with each other," said freshman goalkeeper Dani Jacobson who leads the league with six shutouts.
North Texas has now shutout four of its last five opponents.
Next up for the Mean Green, they'll have another opportunity to get points against a strong opponent as they travel to Houston on Sunday to face Rice. Sunday's match is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. CT and will be streamed on CUSA.tv.
