DENTON — In the final week of the regular season, the North Texas women's soccer team collected two Conference USA Player of the Week honors.
Senior Allie Byrd was voted the C-USA Offensive Player of the Week and redshirt freshman Grace Dennis was voted the C-USA Defensive Player of the Week, announced by the league Monday morning.
UNT came from behind to beat Louisiana Tech on Saturday, 2-1. Byrd, a senior, scored the match-winning goal with just 46 seconds left on the clock to lift her team to victory on Senior Night.
Saturday's win propelled North Texas into a second-place regular season finish.
Byrd took a game-high six shots over the 90-minute match and put half on target and had one shot denied by the post.
Earlier in the second half, Byrd had a point-blank header denied by the keeper's outstretched arms.
Byrd, who is a three-time all-conference honoree, has now earned three C-USA Player of the Week honors in her collegiate career.
Dennis was critical in North Texas' comeback on Saturday in both defending and on the attack. After UNT gave up the early goal to fall behind 1-0 to LA Tech, Dennis, a defensive midfielder, held LA Tech's attack to just two shots on goal.
Then in the 65th minute, Dennis helped tie the match up as she connected with senior Madi Drenowatz on a corner kick.
This is Dennis' first conference player of the week honor.
UNT, which earned a No. 2 seed in the 2022 Conference USA Tournament, begins its run to a hopefully 17th conference championship on Nov. 2 with a first-round match against Western Kentucky.
North Texas beat WKU, 1-0, on the road on Sept. 25.
The 2022 Conference USA Tournament is hosted by Charlotte. All matches will be streamed on ESPN+.
