DENTON - UNT men's golf coach Brad Stracke announced two additions to his program on Wednesday as the long-time coach added two student-athletes who will join the program next year.
The Mean Green will add Mexico's Rafael Estrada and Harlan Yerger, from Oxford, Mississippi, and both are set to join the Mean Green in August 2023, after signing their national letters of intent.
Â
"I feel good about signing these two great players," Stracke said. "They both have the capabilities to post low numbers and are quality students and athletes."
Estrada hails from Guadalajara, Mexico, but went to high school at Monteverde Academy in Florida. On the course, he's excelled with a pair of wins at the CJGA World Junior Championship and the Optimist International Junior Championship at Doral and also key finishes at a pair of major events with a ninth-place showing at the Mexican Amateur and a 12th-place finish at the Toyota Junior World Cup.
Yerger finished second at the AJGA Huntsville Junior Championship at 10-under par with a score of 69-66-71 and fifth at the Mississippi Junior Championship. He is ranked No. 302 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings with only four events on his ledger.
Coach Stracke on Rafael Estrada...
"Rafa has a lot of upside and had competed against great competition throughout his career. He is very good around the greens and has great length off the tee."
Coach Stracke on Harlan Yerger...
"Harlan hits the ball with incredible accuracy. Ball striking is definitely his strength. Both of these guys will make a major impact on the program throughout their careers."
