Men's Basketball Rolls To 30-Point Win

DENTON — The North Texas men's basketball team held Paul Quinn College to just 18 second half points as they cruised to a 76-46 home victory Tuesday night at the Super Pit.
UNT was led Tuesday by junior Abou Ousmane who scored 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the 30-point victory. Seniors Tylor Perry and Jayden Martinez each had 10 points as North Texas' other double-figure scorers.
As a team UNT outrebounded the Tigers (1-0), who compete at the NAIA level, 51-23. North Texas grabbed 20 offensive rebounds and turned that into 20 second-chance points.
"We're starting to come together day-by-day," said Perry. "We're far from where we want and need to be but we're making steps in the right direction. Our depth is getting better each game and it's going to carry us far."
The Mean Green (3-1) remained perfect at home after Tuesday's win and have now won 10 straight regular season home games.
Newcomer Moulaye Sissoko scored eight points Tuesday, which is the most he's had since joining North Texas this season. Sophomore Matthew Stone chipped in six points and grabbed five rebounds versus Paul Quinn, both are single-game career-highs for the Kingfisher, Oklahoma native.
Junior Rubin Jones who played in just his second game back from offseason surgery added eight points on Tuesday off the bench, four more points than he had in his return on Saturday in the Mean Green's 61-52 victory over Fresno State.
"We've got a lot of talent in that locker room and even more belief," Perry said. "We know we're going to be good. We got to keep getting better at the little things and compete harder every day."
UNT is now off to The Bahamas and will play in the 2022 Baha Mar Hoops Nassau Championship. The eight-team tournament begins Friday for North Texas against San Jose State. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. CT and will be streamed on FloSports and the Mean Green Sports Network, presented by Learfield.
