2/16/2022 2:00:00 PM | Women's Basketball
DENTON, Texas – North Texas women's basketball (12-10, 6-6) is looking for its fifth consecutive C-USA victory when they host Florida Atlantic (5-18, 1-11) on Thursday. Tip-off is slated for 6:30 p.m. (CT) inside the Super Pit. The game will air on ESPN+ and Zac Babb will have the call on KNTU 88.1 FM.
FAU comes into this game stumbling a bit, losing its last five in conference play. The Owls boast a balanced attack offensively with three scorers averaging right around 11.5 points per game.
The Mean Green own the largest current win streak in C-USA at four. Since joining the conference, North Texas has only won five in a row twice.
Defense has fueled this February surge. UNT hasn't given up more than 60 points since Feb. 5. It was a grueling stretch of five games in 11 days. Defense made the difference in this four-game winning streak with UNT only eclipsing its season point total average once.
Thursday's game will honor The Kay Yow Cancer Fund. The non-profit organization is dedicated to supporting innovative ways of fighting all types of cancers affecting women. Fans who come to the game are encouraged to wear pink to support the cause.
North Texas will finish its homestand when they host UAB on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. (CT) in the Super Pit. That game will also air on ESPN+.
QUOTING HEAD COACH JALIE MITCHELL
"FAU has been competing. They play hard and its evident they've bought in under their new coaching staff. For us, we just need to make sure we take it one game at a time. Our focus is all on FAU at this point. We need to make sure we're doing all of the right things on both sides of the floor to continue this run we are on."
