After opening the season in Louisiana, UNT softball will host the Tracy Beard College Classic in Melissa, Texas this weekend. The Mean Green head into the tournament with a 3-2 record after picking up wins over Tulsa and Texas Southern last weekend.
North Texas plays four games in Melissa this weekend before traveling to Texas on Tuesday and finally opening play at Lovelace Stadium next weekend with the North Texas Invitational (Feb. 25-27).

HISTORY AGAINST OPPONENTS

UNT will start the weekend with a matchup against Montana on Friday, the first ever meeting between the two programs. The Mean Green will conclude Friday with a night cap against Colorado State. UNT is 1-2 all-time against the Rams, with the last meeting coming in 2011.

On Saturday, UNT takes on Nevada in the third meeting all-time. UNT is 0-2 against the Wolfpack.

UNT will conclude its weekend with matchup against ACUÂ Saturday at 5 pm. The Mean Green swept ACU last season, improving their record against the Wildcats to 7-3 as well as a five-game winning streak against them.
UNT's TOPÂ PERFORMERS
Sophomore outfielder Kalei Christensen started the season hot as she hit .313 and led the Mean Green with three home runs, six runs scored and nine RBI. Christensen set new single-game career-highs in runs (3), RBI (5) and home runs (2).
Sophomore infielder Mikayla Smith finished opening weekend with three hits, three runs scored and one RBI. She tallied one triple, one double and was 2-of-3 in stolen bases.
Junior LHPÂ Ashley Peters made her UNT debut on Friday against Tulsa, but also threw multiple innings on Saturday against No. 19 Louisiana. She made another start Sunday at McNeese and pitched six innings with seven strikeouts and no walks. She allowed just on unearned run.
For the weekend, Peters led the team with 13.1 IP and 12 strikeouts.
UP NEXT
North Texas travels to Austin to face No. 11 Texas Wednesday at 6 pm at Red and Charline McCombs Field. The game will be televised on the Longhorn Network.
