North Texas Set to Host UAB on Saturday
2/18/2022 1:50:00 PM | Women's Basketball
DENTON, Texas – North Texas women's basketball (13-10, 7-6) will be looking to make program history on Saturday when they square off with UAB (13-10, 6-6) at 11:30 a.m. (CT) inside the Super Pit. Saturday's showdown will air on ESPN+ and Zac Babb will have the call KNTU 88.1 FM.
The Mean Green extended its league-best win streak to five against Florida Atlantic on Thursday night in a blowout. With another win, the Mean Green will have won a program-best six straight C-USA games.
Balanced scoring and defense has been the steady diet for the Mean Green in February. They've held their last five C-USA opponents to under 60 points. Quincy Noble led the team with 24 points propelling the Mean Green to its largest margin of victory in the series against the Owls.
UAB, a team that once was jockeying for first and second place in the West Division has dropped four out of its last five. UNT containing Zakyia Weathersby will be priority number one. They did just that last time out in Birmingham that ended in a North Texas 13-point victory. Weathersby is seventh in the country in double-doubles and was held to just four points and three boards.
UNT will hit the road for the final time in the regular season next week when they travel to Southern Miss (Feb. 24) and Louisiana Tech (Feb. 26).
QUOTING HEAD COACH JALIE MITCHELL
"I think both teams have some adjustments they would like to make from our last meeting. I thought last time we withheld a run they had and that was the difference in the game. Getting stops, making our free throws and executing our offense when we needed it most was huge. Tomorrow is a new day, so we expect everyone to put their best foot forward and compete. We've been talking a lot about consistency these past few weeks and our team has shown that lately. We hope that continues into this final stretch."
