The Bruzzy
Waterchase Golf Club |Â Fort Worth, Texas
Â
The North Texas women's golf team returns to action in The Bruzzy, which will mark the fourth edition of the tournament hosted by UNT that has become one of the best in women's college golf.
Â
THE EVENT: Waterchase Golf Club will play as a par-72 course at 6,277 yards. The teams will play 54 holes over two days beginning Monday and concluding on Tuesday. Both days will begin with shotgun starts at 8:30 a.m.Â
Â
THE FIELD: There are 14 teams participating in the tournament, including seven ranked in the top 50 nationally and two more just outside the top 50: No. 17 Baylor, Charlotte, Houston, No. 37 Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, No. 46 North Texas, No. 49 Oklahoma, No. 7 Oklahoma State, No. 30 TCU, No. 13 Texas, No. 21 Texas Tech, Tulane and Tulsa.
Â
REPRESENTING UNT: Competing for the Mean Green will be Audrey Tan, Patricia Sinolungan, Ellie Roth, Emilie Ricaud, Marija Jucmane, Shreya Pal, Sakura Sugiyama and Chandler Browning. Three will be playing as individuals.
Â
RESULTS: Live scoring and final results will be posted on Golfstat.com. A full recap will be posted on MeanGreenSports.com at the end of the day.
Â
LAST TIME OUT: UNT finished eighth at the MountainView Collegiate in Tucson, Arizona. Senior Audrey Tan finished tied for third at 8-under and earned Conference USA Golfer of the Week for her performance - the fourth Mean Green player to earn the award in as many tournaments this spring.
Â
MOVING UP: North Texas has made significant strides since head coach Michael Akers took over almost six years ago. The Mean Green were ranked No. 201 following the 2015-16 season, and since Akers arrived in Denton, UNT has soared more than 150 spots from that time. The Mean Green are currently ranked 46th.
THE GOAT: Lauren Cox, who graduated last spring to finish off her stellar five-year Mean Green career, has attained partial status on the Epson Tour for the 2022 season, and she's currently on staff as a volunteer assistant coach.
Â
AKERS SAYS: "We are excited to host The Bruzzy again this year," UNT head coach Michael Akers said. "This event has gained the reputation as one of the top events in the nation. I have hosted many incredible events over the years, but this is the first time I have ever hosted every Big 12 team at one time. We go the extra mile in terms of hospitality and details. As far as our team goes, we are fighting through a few injuries, which is unfortunate since we haven't played in competition for a few weeks. The hope is by Monday we can be healthy. The wind will be a factor, and I feel good about our ability to handle that."
UP NEXT: The Mean Green will travel to Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, to play in the Conference USA Championship on April 18-20, at PGA National Resort & Spa, as they look to defend their team and individual (Audrey Tan) championships won a year ago.
Â
NEW FACILITY: The Mean Green golf programs are thrilled to break in their brand new Bruzzy's UNT Golf Practice Facility, the new $3 million on-campus facility that features state-of-the-art technology, such as TrackMan, swing catalysts, indoor hitting bays, a short-game area and a PuttView indoor putting green.
