
Softball Evens Series Against UTSA

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – UNT softball evened the series against UTSA Saturday afternoon as it defeated the Roadrunners 6-4 at Roadrunner Field. The Mean Green fell behind 2-0 early but battled back for the come-from-behind victory.

RECAP:
UTSA (12-21, 5-6) dealt the first blow in the bottom of the first inning. After Camryn Robillard reached on an error, Marena Estell homered to center field to give the Roadrunners a 2-0 advantage.
North Texas answered in the top of the second to take the lead. Kailey Gamble led off with a single to right field before Tayla Evans reached on an error. Mikayla Smith then brought both home with a blast to left center to take a 3-2 lead.
The Roadrunners didn't cave as they scored two runs to retake the lead in the bottom of the second. Lauren Coerver scored the tying run on a RBI double to right center before Kat Ibarra scored on a passed ball to take a 4-3 lead.
In the top of the third, UNT (22-8, 11-3) tied the game at 4-4 when Kalei Christensen brought Cierra Simon home on a double down the left line.
UNT then retook the lead in the top of the fifth when Evans scored her second run of the game on a wild pitch to make it 5-4.
Sydney Ingle later scored the final run of the game on another wild pitch to stretch the lead to 6-4 in the top of the seventh.
Skylar Savage (9-3) pitched a complete game and struck out seven batters and picked up her ninth win of the season.
Evans finished 1-for-2 at the plate and added two runs and two walks. Smith homered for the second time this season and finished 1-for-3 with one run and three RBI.
Alexa Williams (3-5) was charged the loss for UTSA after pitching 4.0 innings. She finished with four strikeouts on the day.
Ibarra led the Roadrunners on offense and finished 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
