STILLWATER, OKLA. – North Texas fell to Nebraska 3-0, Friday evening at Cowgirl Stadium in the opening game of the 2022 NCAA Stillwater Regional. The Mean Green didn't score as the offense recorded only three hits.
"Really, the difference in the game to me was that they executed with runners in scoring position, and we didn't," head coach Rodney DeLong said. "Disappointing for sure, but I know this group and I know how resilient they are, and we'll play better tomorrow."
Nebraska (41-14) took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on back-to-back plays including on a throwing error by North Texas. The Cornhuskers scored their final run in the fourth inning on an RBI single down the left line.
UNT recorded their first hit in the third inning when Cierra Simon doubled down the left line.
Tayla Evans was the only other player to record a hit for the Mean Green (35-15). Evans finished 2-for-3 and recorded her second triple of the year.
Ashley Peters (19-7) pitched 3.2 innings and was charged the loss. Skylar Savage came into the game in the fourth inning and allowed only one hit in 2.1 innings pitched.
UNT will play in an elimination game against Fordham, Saturday May 21 at 3:30 PM CT. The game will be televised on ESPN+.
