Marzilio Headed to NCAA Norman Regional

DENTON - After another strong season, North Texas sophomore Vicente Marzilio will make a return trip to the NCAA Regional tournament after being selected to the Norman Regional as the second-seeded individual on Wednesday afternoon.
Marzilio, who won the Conference USA championship and was named the conference Freshman of the Year last year, will play in the event May 16-18 at Jimmie Austin Golf Club, after posting seven top-20 finishes in 11 starts this year and three consecutive top-10 showings. The top individual finisher at regionals not on an advancing team will advance to the NCAA Championship May 27-June 1, in Scottsdale, Arizona.
"Vicente had one of the best spring seasons I have witnessed here at UNT," UNT head coach Brad Stracke said. "It's going to be fun to watch him compete at regionals."
Marzilio was No. 118 in the latest Golfstat poll and has led the team all year, posting a 72.88 scoring average on the year with a season-low round of 66 at the Louisiana Classics.
Last year at the Stillwater Regional, where Marzilio earned an automatic berth as the Conference USA champion, he finished tied for 21st.
