Marzilio Qualifies For U.S. Amateur

DENTON - North Texas incoming junior Vicente Marzilio qualified on Monday for the U.S. Amateur Championship by tying at the top of the leaderboard at a qualifier at DeSoto Golf Course in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas.
Marzilio shot a 64-69-133 in 36 holes on Monday to finish at 11-under par to tie atop the leaderboard with two spots open in the event, which will be played Aug. 15-21, in Paramus, New Jersey, at The Ridgewood Country Club and Arcola Country Club.
The event will be televised on Aug. 17, from 2-3 p.m. on Peacock and from 3-5 p.m. on Golf Channel.
Marzilio will be making his second U.S. Amateur appearance after playing the event last year at famed Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania, where the Mean Green were also be represented by incoming junior Tucker Allen, who had just transferred into the program from Oklahoma. Rodolfo Cazaubon and Carlos Ortiz represented the Mean Green in 2013, with Cazaubon finishing T20th. Another former Mean Green golfer, Ian Snyman, competed at the event in 2017.
