Prone Qualifies For U.S. Amateur

DALLAS - North Texas incoming junior Diego Prone qualified on Thursday for the U.S. Amateur Championship by finishing in the third and final qualifying spot at a qualifier at Bent Tree Country Club.
Prone shot a 71-68 over the two-day qualifier to finish at 3-under par with the help of a scorching back-nine that included five birdies to qualify for the famed amateur event, which will be played Aug. 15-21, in Paramus, New Jersey at The Ridgewood Country Club and Arcola Country Club.
The event will be televised on Aug. 17, from 2-3 p.m. on Peacock and from 3-5 p.m. on Golf Channel.
Prone will join his teammate and countryman Vicente Marzilio, who will be making his second U.S. Amateur appearance after he qualified on Monday Marzilio played in the event last year at Oakmont Country Club in Pennslyvania along with incoming junior Tucker Allen, who had just transferred from Oklahoma. Rodolfo Cazaubon and Carlos Ortiz represented the Mean Green in 2013, with Cazaubon finishing T20th. Another former Mean Green golfer, Ian Snyman, competed at the event in 2017.
