WICHITA, Kan. - Behind a game-high 21 points from Brandon Jefferson, the seventh-seeded Bleed Green continued their Cinderella run through The Basketball Tournament (TBT) with a second consecutive upset victory, an 87-62 win over 3-seed Purple & Black, a team made up primarily of former Kansas State players. Bleed Green moves on to the Round of 16 and will face top seed Aftershocks, primarily comprised of former Wichita State players, on ESPN2 Monday at 8 p.m.
Bleed Green, made up primarily of former North Texas players, is the first UNT team to take part in the summer tournament that features a $1 million prize for the champion.Â
Bleed Green was able to pull away with the help of a huge second quarter in which they outscored Purple & Black 31-9 to build a 53-31 halftime lead after the first quarter ended in a 22-22 tie. Bleed Green shot 13-for-27 from beyond the arc to end the game at a 48% clip on 3-pointers, led by Jefferson's 5-of-10 night from long range. Bleed Green also dominated with a bench scoring advantage of 38-5.
Jordan Stevens chipped in 15 points for Bleed Green, while Shannon Shorter (2011) and Jason Siggers each added 10. Shorter led the team with six assists and tied Jefferson for a team-best seven rebounds.
