Adams makes second straight appearance in prestigious tournament
MILWAUKEE, WI. – Before competition has begun in the 2022-23 season, the North Texas women's tennis program already has positive news as Jasmine Adams and Matilde Morais have been selected to participate in the prestigious ITA Milwaukee Tennis Classic in Milwaukee, Wisc.
The invite-only event will take place Sept. 16-18 at the Western Racquet Club and will feature a UNT women's tennis player for the second straight year after Adams and 2022 UNT alum Lucie Devier competed in the tournament in 2021.
"We are super excited for Jasmine and Matilde to have the opportunity to participate in such a prestigious tournament," head coach Sujay Lama said. "Only a select few are invited and have the opportunity to earn a wild card to fall nationals. This will certainly give them an added motivation in practice."
Morais, meanwhile, arrives in Denton as the 182nd-ranked junior player in the world according to ITF. A Lisbon, Portugal native, Morais was a member of the Portuguese Junior National Team in the winter and summer European Championships and was selected to represent Portugal at the European Youth Olympics in 2019.
The most notable performance in UNT history at the MTC occurred in 2017 when the doubles duo of Maria Kononova and Tamuna Kutubidze teamed up to win the MTC Doubles title, the first to do so in program history.
