Â
The North Texas women's golf team will open up the 2022-23 season in Aggieland, as the Mean Green will compete in the Texas A&M Mo'Morial and take on a field loaded with quality competition.
Â
THE EVENT: Traditions Golf Club will play as a par-72 course at 6,406 yards. The teams will play 54 holes over two days beginning Tuesday (36 holes) and concluding on Wednesday. Each day will feature a shotgun start at 8:30 and 8 a.m., respectively.
Â
THE FIELD:Â There are 14 teams participating in the tournament: Charlotte, Florida, Houston, Kansas, Kansas State, Miami, North Carolina, North Texas, SMU, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas State, Texas Tech, UTSA.
Â
REPRESENTING UNT: Competing for the Mean Green will be Audrey Tan, Patricia Sinolungan, Emilie Ricaud, Shreya Pal and Sakura Sugiyama. Freshman Mason Lewis will be playing as an individual and making her collegiate debut.
Â
RESULTS: Live scoring and final results will be posted on Golfstat.com. A full recap will be posted on MeanGreenSports.com at the end of the day.
 Â
MOVING UP: North Texas has made significant strides since head coach Michael Akers took over seven years ago. The Mean Green were ranked No. 201 following the 2015-16 season, and since Akers arrived in Denton, UNT has soared more than 150 spots from that time. The Mean Green are now consistently ranked in the top 50 nationally.
THE GOAT: Lauren Cox, who graduated in Spring 2021 to finish off her stellar five-year Mean Green career, has attained partial status on the Epson Tour for the 2022 season, and she's currently on staff as a volunteer assistant coach.Â
AKERSÂ SAYS:Â "Our team has been playing very well in qualifying. Audrey, Patty and Emilie have been steady, as usual, and Shreya and Sakura have really improved from last year. Lauren (Cox) has been giving us insight on the golf course as it serves as her home course between her Epson Tour events. Tuesday will be a grind, walking 36-holes in hot conditions, so we will focus on staying hydrated and play one shot at a time."
UP NEXT:Â The Mean Green will travel to Norman, Oklahoma, to play in the OU Schooner Fall Classic from September 24-26 for the third consecutive year.
Â
NEW FACILITY: The Mean Green golf programs are thrilled to break in their brand new Bruzzy's UNT Golf Practice Facility, the new $3 million on-campus facility that features state-of-the-art technology, such as TrackMan, swing catalysts, indoor hitting bays, a short-game area and a PuttView indoor putting green.
