Men's Golf Set For Season Debut

The North Texas men's golf team gets back to competition on Sunday with some new faces and some old veterans in its season-opening tournament in Louisiana.
THE EVENT: Squire Creek Country Club will play at 7,105 yards, and will be a par-72 course for the tournament. The three-day event begins Sunday and will conclude on Tuesday, with tee times beginning on Sunday and Monday at 7:30 a.m. and on Tuesday at 8 a.m.
THE FIELD: There are 21 teams participating in the tournament: Abilene Christian, Central Arkansas, Francis Marion, High Point, Houston, Kennesaw State, Lamar, Louisiana, Louisiana Tech, LSU, Middle Tennessee, Missouri State, Nicholls State, North Texas, Oral Roberts, Rice, SMU, Southern Miss, Troy, ULM and UTSA.
REPRESENTING UNT: Competing for the Mean Green will be Vicente Marzilio, Diego Prone, Cody Winkler, Tucker Allen and Simon Roessler. Lenny Bergsson will compete as an individual.

MEAN GREEN DEBUTS: North Texas will have two players make their Mean Green debuts, as junior Cody Winkler will make his first start with the program after transferring from ULM and freshman Simon Roessler (Santiago, Chile) will make his collegiate debut.
STRACKE SAYS: "We're playing a fun golf course this week at Squire Creek. Par 5s will give you some opportunities for birdies and eagles, but you have to pay attention on your approach shots as the greens have slope and are usually very quick. I look forward to competing, and I know my guys are, as well."
INTERNATIONAL FLAVOR: The Mean Green feature eight international players this year. Lenny Bergsson (Iceland), Nikhil Gopal (South Africa), Zak Karkaletsos (Spain), Vicente Marzilio (Argentina), Diego Prone (Argentina), Simon Roessler (Chile), Alvaro Roldos (Spain) and Philippe Thorin (Ecuador) round out the international players.
UP NEXT: North Texas will compete at The Tucker on Sept. 23-24 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
HOME SWEET HOME: The Mean Green golf programs are thrilled to break in their brand new Bruzzy's UNT Golf Practice Facility, the new $3 million on-campus facility that features state-of-the-art technology, such as TrackMan, swing catalysts, indoor hitting bays, a short-game area and a PuttView indoor putting green.
