DENTON - The UNT swimming and diving program will get a sneak peak at its competition for The American Championship next month with this weekend's meet against SMU, Rice and Tulane in Dallas.
The Mean Green spent a week in Flagstaff, Arizona, to compete in a dual meet against Northern Arizona and Colorado State while also getting in some key training at altitude, and head coach Brittany Roth said she is excited to see her team build on what it accomplished at the training camp.
"We're looking forward to our first competition coming off of a great training camp this past week," Roth said. "The two-day format will allow our student athletes to compete in their strengths and really focus on their events as we take on SMU, Rice and Tulane. Our swimmers embraced the challenge of training and racing at altitude, and our divers had an awesome week of training tower in preparation for our conference championship in February. I'm excited to see our swimmers execute their skills and strengths back at sea level and to see our divers implement their training as they take on tower on Day 2."
The swimming and diving team is the first UNT program to compete as a member of The American before the rest of the programs make the transition from Conference USA to The American on July 1. The American Championship is slated for Feb. 13-18, in Dallas.
