BOWLING GREEN, Kentucky — The North Texas men's basketball team defeated Western Kentucky on the road, 70-66, Thursday night to mark its fourth straight win over the Hilltoppers.
UNT (12-3, 3-1) was paced by Tylor Perry who scored a team-high 22 points on 7-of-16 shooting.
"Our offensive efficiency was good for most of the game," said head coach Grant McCasland. "Aaron Scott was phenomenal tonight. We really needed him to step up and he did."
Scott tied his season-high with 11 points and made a single-game career-high three 3-pointers and didn't miss one deep attempt. He entered Thursday having made just six on the year.
The Mean Green opened Thursday's game on a 21-2 run and were rolling as they held WKU without a field goal for the game's first nine minutes and 50 seconds. However, a couple WKU (8-6, 0-3) 3-pointers brought the Hilltopper crowd alive and they were able to chip away at the Mean Green's lead.
WKU's Dayvion McKnight scored a game-high 29 points and scored 13 of it at the free throw line. The Hilltoppers made 25 free throws Thursday, which is the most by a UNT opponent this season.
"It's tough to win on the road," McCasland said. "McKnight is a great player. But we hung on at the end. It'll be a growing experience."
UNT stays on the road as they travel to Middle Tennessee on Saturday for a 5 p.m. CT tip. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and the Mean Green Sports Network, presented by Learfield.
