TAMPA, Florida — The UNT soccer team is on its longest road trip during conference play this season.
The Mean Green are off to South Florida for a Thursday night road match against the Bulls and then travel to Florida Atlantic on Sunday for another league road match. North Texas heads into Thursday's match at USF on a three-match unbeaten streak and ranked No. 2 in the United Soccer Coaches South Region.
First touch for Thursday's match is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT and Sunday's match start time is scheduled for noon CT. Both matches will be streamed on ESPN+.
Thursday will be the first time in program history North Texas and South Florida have ever met. The two schools faced off in 2019 in a preseason match in Tampa, Florida. Both UNT and USF reached the NCAA Tournament that season. FAU and UNT are former CUSA and Sun Belt members and have played each other 17 times prior to Sunday.
The Mean Green (8-2-1, 2-1-1) are one win shy of securing their 29th consecutive winning season. North Texas has never had a losing season in its program's 28-plus year history. The only programs 20 years or older that can claim that are UNT and North Carolina.
Entering Thursday's contest, North Texas sits in a tie for second place of the American Athletic Conference West Division standings with SMU. The Mean Green take on a USF (6-5-1, 2-1-1) squad that is in second place of the East Division standings. FAU (6-4-3, 2-1-1) hosts SMU Thursday night before playing UNT but the Owls are right behind the Bulls as they currently stand in third place of the East Division.
Following this two-match road trip, North Texas returns home on Oct. 19 for three straight home matches to close out the regular season.
