AUSTIN - The UNT divers competed on Wednesday and Thursday at the Texas Diving Invitational against Texas and TCU and came away with several strong showings, some personal bests and an NCAA Zone cut.
Senior Brigid Krbec earned her Zone cut in the 3-meter springboard on Wednesday with a sixth-place showing in the event final, where she was joined by Saylor Hawkins.
In the 1-meter springboard on Thursday, three divers made the final as Krbec and Hawkins had a second final appearance and were joined by freshman Sydney Guidara, who ended up leading the way for the Mean Green in the final with a fifth-place showing.
"I'm really proud of the whole squad this week," diving coach Stephanie O'Callaghan said. "They did a tremendous job. Brigid got another Zone cut, and we had multiple PRs on both the 1-meter and 3-meter. They all did a great job holding their own. We've always had a great team culture but this group, in particular, has grown really cohesive over these past few months - supporting each other day in and day out and pushing each other while having a lot of fun. I'm excited to see what's to come."
The divers will quickly get back to competition on Saturday when the Mean Green host New Mexico State, with diving set to begin at 11:30 a.m., and the swimming competition heating up at 12:15 p.m.
"I'm looking forward to a day of rest and then it's right back at it Saturday with another great opportunity to take what we learned here and build on our performance in front of family, friends and fans," O'Callaghan said.
