RUSTON, La. – McKenzie Wagoner recorded her fourth complete game victory of the season to lead UNT softball to a 3-2 win over LA Tech on Sunday at Dr. Billy Bundrick Field.
North Texas (14-9, 2-1) won its first Conference USA series of the season and moved into second place in the league. The Mean Green took two out of three from Louisiana Tech (15-8, 1-2) for the weekend to improve to 7-3 over the last 10 games against its conference rival.
"Winning a series on the road against one of the top teams in our conference was huge," head coach Rodney DeLong said. "Wagoner had a great weekend and I'm proud of how we responded after the first two games. This group is gritty and showed some fight today."
Wagoner (W, 6-1) battled through 7.0 innings pitched with one strikeout. She allowed one earned run on five hits and two walks.
Tatum Sparks (2-for-3) registered her first multi-hit game of her career including a leadoff double in the third inning. She scored the opening run of the game on a Jodie Epperson RBI single.
Rylee Nicholson finished the day 3-for-3 including a home run in the fourth inning after Kalei Christensen (2-for-3) hit a solo shot for the second back-to-back home runs of the season. The first was Saleen Donohoe and Cierra Simon against Sam Houston on Feb. 18 at the Tracy Beard College Classic.
