North Texas extends its winning streak to six games
DENTON – Saleen Donohoe capped a five-run sixth inning with a walk-off home run as UNT softball defeated UTSA 12-2 on Sunday at Lovelace Stadium to complete a Conference USA sweep.
"We had a great homestand with some really good crowds," head coach Rodney DeLong said. "Getting a sweep was crucial as we are trying to win our conference. I thought we executed really well this weekend and did a lot of little things that go unnoticed. This group knows what they are after this week, and we will only continue to get better."
Kalei Chirstensen led the Mean Green (19-9, 5-1) with a career high four hits, three RBI, two runs and a double. As a team, UNT finished with a season-high 14 hits to take down the Roadrunners (6-22, 2-4) in its second consecutive run-rule victory and seventh of the campaign.
Ashley Peters (W, 6-4) claimed a complete-game win in 6.0 innings with six strikeouts to pass the 200 punchout mark for her North Texas career. She allowed two earned runs on six hits and two walks in the win.
UNT tallied a season-high mark of 23 total bases in the contest including multi-hit efforts from Christensen (4-for-4), Donohoe (2-for-4), Lexi Cobb (2-for-3) and Kailey Gamble (2-for-3).
Gamble notched career hit No. 100 with a two-RBI single off the top of the wall in the sixth inning.
Donohoe matched her single-game career high with four RBI.
Cierra Simon hit her third home run of the season with a solo shot on the first pitch of the second inning.
